01 / Executive Overview

Setting
the Stage

"Cross-platform desktop LaTeX IDE resolving syntax errors, TikZ semicolons, package clashes, and BibTeX references dynamically."

ResearchTeX is a cross-platform desktop LaTeX editing and compilation system packaged with Tauri / Electron and built with Next.js (App Router), React 19, and Tailwind CSS. Integrated with PostgreSQL (Neon) and Prisma ORM, ResearchTeX pre-processes document source files before compilation to automatically resolve syntax mistakes, package option clashes, and broken citations.

02 / The Challenge

Desktop Native Windowing & Complex LaTeX Package Clashes

Writing multi-file academic theses in standard TeX editors leads to cryptically failed builds due to missing semicolons in TikZ diagrams, raw ampersands, duplicate package imports across child files, and missing image dependencies.

Key Bottlenecks

  • 1Cryptic LaTeX build failures caused by minor syntax typos and unescaped special characters.
  • 2Need for native desktop shell capabilities including OS window management and offline file caching.
  • 3Frequent package option clashes and manual multi-pass BibTeX command execution.

03 / Solution

Desktop Native Shell & Automated Self-Healing Pipeline

We delivered a native desktop shell wrapping a Next.js application that pre-analyzes TeX source files, repairs syntax anomalies on the fly, deduplicates BibTeX entries, generates mock graphics for missing images, and connects to local or cloud TeX compilation APIs.
